Summary/Objective

The Groomer is responsible to properly groom and finish pets by using humane practices and minimizing pet stress. Additionally, the Groomer is responsible for the overall cleanliness and maintenance and of the grooming area of the store.

Essential Functions

  • Performs groom functions as requested by the client and described on the groom card. Provide an attractive pet style that meets client’s needs and is appropriate for the pet.
  • Ensure bathers are preparing dogs for grooming in accordance with procedures.
  • Observe dog coat conditions and recommend shave down versus de-matting.
  • Ensure receptionist is advised of extra charges required for brush-out or de-matting.
  • Finish dogs as described in procedures.
  • Bathe dogs/cats as needed.
  • Manage grooming schedule to ensure departure times are met or clients notified in advance of unavoidable delays.
  • Keep grooming stations stocked with supplies, tools cleaned and ready for use.
  • Ensure bather/brushers keep groom shop clean.
  • During the work day keep the room safe by wiping up water spills and pet accidents as soon as possible.
  • At the end of each workday all hair should be swept/mopped from floor and cleaned from tubs/shower.
  • Holding cages should be ready for next day’s arrivals.
  • Update pet status to receptionist. Advise when dogs that are to be “called when ready” are finished.
  • Follow safety procedures for pets and staff at all times. Ask for assistance when a pet is stressed, very difficult to manage or showing any signs of injury.
  • Advise Grooming or Store Manager of any issues with bather/brusher job performance.
  • Finish dogs as described in procedures.
  • Bathe dogs/cats as needed.
  • Manage groom shop work schedule to ensure departure times are met or clients notified in advance of unavoidable delays.
  • Keep grooming stations stocked with supplies, tools cleaned and ready for use.
  • Ensure bather/brushers keep groom area clean.

Work Environment

This job operates in a store environment; daycare and grooming.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms, use a calculator, cash register, telephone and computer. This job requires the employee to frequently lift at least 50 plus pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time or part-time position. Shifts vary and will require some weekends and holidays.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED. Prior professional grooming experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Professional Grooming School graduate preferred.
